About Bylaw
So many companies claim to offer bespoke or custom handmade furniture when in truth, many simply offer permutations of standard units destined to be assembled and spray finished in minutes!
BYLAW truly is a bespoke handmade furniture and joinery company drawing upon a vast library of designs accumulated over decades OR starting absolutely “from scratch” on totally unique furniture & joinery commissions. Very much “country” furniture makers, oak is the preferred medium in which the Bylaw team works
HISTORY
Established in the mid 1970s by two craftsmen previously in the antique restoration trade, Bylaw was quick to gain an enviable reputation. By the late 1980s Bylaw authentic traditional furniture had firmly found its niche and simultaneously, demand developed for top quality fitted joinery, particularly oak staircases and panelled rooms. In 2005, the Norfolk workshop showroom opened to display a wide range of stock in settings that include a very impressive oak panelled room.
THE FURNITURE
Bylaw is a traditional cabinet making workshop. Upon visiting, instead of assembly lines or state of the art manufacturing machinery, you will find work benches where individual customer commissions are being meticulously constructed by true craftsmen using methods dating back centuries. In the “polishing shop” you will see individual pieces being skilfully hand finished and where every painstaking process brings completion and readiness for delivery one step closer.
OUR EXPERTISE
We draw upon decades of experience when required to develop your ideas for a bespoke piece of furniture or a unique panelled room. Solid background knowledge of the construction methods, styles and fashions of periods past provide a useful starting position whether creating a purely “retro” concept or a totally contemporary "grand design".
